About the Salzkammergut in Styria!

As you have probably already noticed, we are sitting in the car right now, as we are constantly commuting between Salzburg and Graz. Sometimes this is quite tiring, as a ride in one direction takes about three hours of driving, including a break. But especially in summer you have several possibilities to come from A to B. It is also very nice to see something different than getting one and the same motorway route.

This time we decided on a proper excursion route homeward towards Styria. Over the Salzkammergut, above Hallstatt, further over the Koppen Pass, the pass first went to upper Styria to my parents and later to Graz. Since the last severe storms, the route over the Herder Tauern has unfortunately been closed for an indefinite period of time.

Hallstadt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was recently rebuilt by the Chinese. The place is tiny, but it's teeming with tourists:) The place is not only known for the former salt, but also for the grave finds from the so-called Hall instead of time.

Although the Koppe pass is not very high compared to other passes, it has the road in itself. A hairpin bend follows the next one.

We finally reached the Murtal via the pass. This is closed in the winter months and only in the summer, usually only from the end of May. Unfortunately, the next rainy weather has already been announced in the mountains and the temperature was only about 16 °c. Even the snow had not melted completely at the end of June.
